RIGHT AFTER YOU GET PIERCED
Getting your piercing done professionally is great But, you must know that Lip piercing is one of the piercings that gets swollen and needs about a week to be back to normal.
WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST
ALWAYS, CLEAN HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR PIERCING
Washing thoroughly with antibacterial soap ensures the protection of dirt and oils from your fingers transferred to your piercing (which is an open wound), and potentially cause an infection.
REGULATE YOUR ORAL HYGIENE
IT IS A MUST
It is very important to maintain oral hygiene to avoid infection. Change your toothbrush to a new one directly, use alcohol-free mouthwash. non-iodized sea salt as a mouthwash also works.
CLEAN YOUR MOUTH
KEEP IT CLEAN ALWAYS
Rinse your mouth for 30 seconds using an alcohol-free mouthwash or salt solution after every time you eat, drink, or smoke. Rinse before bedtime as well.
ICE IS GREAT
Suck on small pieces of ice to alleviate pain and swelling. Pain relieving anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen can also be used.
CLEAN AROUND IT
DO IT WITH GENTLE CARE
Once a day, preferably in the shower when any crusted matter and debris around the piercing has softened, lather a mild soap with your fingers and gently wash the piercing site and jewelry.
BRUSH YOUR TEETH
AT LEAST TWICE A DAY, AFTER FOOD TOO
Rinse your mouth with alcohol-free mouthwash after brushing to remove any leftover food particles from your mouth.
EAT SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY
SOFT FOOD IN THE FIRST FEW DAYS
Be careful not to bite your lip, and avoid contact with the piercing as much as possible. Chew as far away from the piercing as you can. In the first couple days especially, try foods like:
- Ice cream
- Cold foods and drinks that soothe and help keep swelling.
AVOID EATING DRINKING AND SMOKING
THE FIRST THREE HOURS
Avoid talking as much as possible. Until your piercing is completely healed, you should also avoid:
- Alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and drugs
- Sticky foods, including oatmeal
- Hard food, candy, and gum
- Spicy food
- Chewing on non-edible items, such as your fingers, pencils, and pens.
DON'T TOUCH IT
DON'T PLAY WITH IT
Cleaning time is the only time you should touch your piercing. Touching it too much can lead to infections, swelling, pain, and increased healing time.
DON'T APPLY OINTMENT
DON'T IMPROVISE ONLY DO THE RIGHT THING
Many people logically think that they will prevent the bacteria from forming or speed up the healing of piercing by applying ointment. This thought is absolutely false and will cause infection because first, it will speed up the healing which might grow excess skin around the piercing, secondly, the ointment is oil based so after the effect is gone they will act like a petroleum gel trapping the bacteria and causing infection.
NO NEAR MAKE UP
CHEMICALS ARE BAD
During the healing phase, the nose area near the piercing must be clean at all times, avoid applying make in the area because of the chemical composition and the particles will trap bacteria near the piercing and cause infection.
DONT SLEEP ON IT
WILL CAUSE IRRITATION
You can accidentally bump touch the piercing while you are sleeping which is very normal, it's a must to watch out for your new piercing at the beginning of the healing phase, any deep movement may scratch the inside off your piercing hole which would cause irritation.
DON'T CHANGE IT
UNTIL FULLY HEALED
Not only can this aggravate newly healed skin, but the piercing can start to close immediately.
MAINTAIN ORAL HYGIENE
BETTER SAFE THAN SORRYY
After your piercing has healed, you don’t have to keep up with the multiple daily mouthwash rinses and soaks, but clean the piercing and jewelry in the shower with mild soap every few days. Brush and floss regularly.
